1. Americorps volunteers on 3/28 – This event was attended by Sue Bennett, Pat Sayer-Handley, and Kirk Fujikawa. Sue Bennett reported that this event was successful and well-attended held at the Coloma Community Center. Sue, Pat and Kirk were kept busy talking to interested Americorps volunteers about Heifer’s work, volunteer opportunities, and paths to careers in Heifer.
2. FUN
Raiser on 3/29 – John Brewer was the lead volunteer for this smoothly executed,
fun, musical event held in the Community Room of Arcade library. The evening,
from 7 –9 pm, included lots of entertainment, informational Heifer videos, a Heifer
animal quiz, and refreshments. Donations generated to Heifer amounted to over
$1,600.
ll. Partnership with CSUS students
Susan
Rumberg reported on the work of the event committee. We are awaiting a response
to an email sent to the students outlining our concerns about the proposed
casino night. The committee felt that there were too many challenges in going
forward with the casino night, including a tight time frame for processing all
the necessary forms, adequate attendance at the venue and financial support of
the event. As a result, the committee
decided to discontinue planning for the casino night. Our intention is to
support the students in a different choice for an event to help them satisfy
their course requirements.

IV. Other
Items
Ecuador Study Tour. The Missouri teachers that had initially
planned on joining the tour contingent upon funding support will not be going
on the study tour. Seven from our volunteer group have signed up and meets with
the minimum number of participants for the trip to move forward. Since the trip
can accommodate up to about 10 participants, the word that we have some
openings on the trip is going out to Sonoma, Napa and the Bay area volunteers.
Tapped,
a film that will be shown at the Spiritual Life Center, 2201 Park Towne Circle,
Friday, April 19th at 6:30 pm. The film shows a behind the scenes look into the
unregulated and unseen world of an industry that aims to privatize and sell
back the one resource that ought never to become a commodity: our water.
Material resources. Susan Sundell updated us on the status of the various Heifer material resources available and stored in her garage as we gear up for the upcoming events.
Spinner. Pat Sayer-Handley will contact
Jill about the possibility of purchasing a new, lighter, and customizable
spinner. While our existing one has served us well, it is very heavy and
difficult to move.
